Throughout this unit, students will discuss the central idea and theme. And on that same day, in the small village of Jericho in northern Vermont, Wilson Alwyn Bentley was born. You will also receive vocabulary cards to help review words every day. For decades, Wilson Alwyn Bentley took detailed photographs of snow crystals, effectively pioneering photomicrography. 'Under the microscope, I found that snowflakes were miracles of beauty and it seemed a shame that this beauty should not be seen and appreciated by others. When he got older, his parents bought him a microscope camera so he could photograph the snowflakes. He spent his winters catching snowflakes and studying them. Ever since he was a young boy, Willie Bentley was fascinated by snowflakes. Snowflake Bentley, by Jacqueline Briggs Martin, is one of my favorite winter read alouds.
